As the Government pledges to “get Britain building“ the pressure grows on the availability of land. With greenfield sites fiercely protected, brownfield sites have come up time and again as a viable option. Although these sites tend to be in popular and useful locations, such as city centres, the dangers of contamination from foreign waste are becoming a growing concern for local authorities.
CIRIA’s contaminated land reports have helped practitioners involved in brownfield regeneration projects for nearly 20 years. With over 40 good practice guidance reports published, and via the Local Authority Contaminated Land Network and Brownfield Risk Management Forum, CIRIA continues to work with the industry as it improves the way it assess and manages risk on brownfield sites.
