Marine resource mapping in the UK and Europe

Resource mapping (the process of identifying and presenting information on the availability of resources across a given region) plays a major part in the marine aggregate industry across Europe.

By allowing authorities to know the extent of sand and gravel deposits, it aids their fight for the sustainable management of resources. Future plans for the extraction of sand and gravel are largely determined by the outcomes of resource mapping processes.

In this webinar, marine experts shared their experiences with the marine resource mapping process, they highlighted how engaging with authorities has provided methods to sustainably manage resources and the different resource mapping methods used across Europe.

For the past 22 years, EMSAGG has worked to identify developments and information needs for the marine sand and gravel constituents concerning all aspects of the industry across Europe. It is widely recognised that resource mapping is a common challenge shared across this industry. EMSAGG have coordinated with industry representatives to outline a few approaches to this process across Europe.
