Sustainable soil management for a thriving future

Almost all construction projects generate surplus soil. With the UK government continuing to push for more brownfield redevelopment, the consequences of inappropriate soil management are significant.

Many practitioners have difficulties navigating the complex soil related regulations when managing soil. Defra’s Circular Economy Taskforce has also determined that regulatory reform is needed.

However, we cannot afford to wait for regulation and policy to change. The industry needs to find better ways of applying current legislation. To achieve this, we need more opportunities to share good practice.

This seminar addressed the key issues that construction professionals have encountered in managing soil, and explored how CIRIA’s Soil Community of Practice, which was established to encourage good practice and facilitate collaboration, can support the industry.
