Linear infrastructure overbuild seminar

This in-person event was hosted by Transport for London Property and launched Buildoffsite’s recent ‘Linear infrastructure overbuild guide’ and presented how using offsite solutions can contribute to this form of development.

Cities have an ever-increasing need for additional, good quality housing as they continue to grow. Greenfield sites are often almost non-existent within existing city boundaries, which means their brownfield and demolition sites are the norm for redevelopment projects.

In this context, where demolition or remedial costs can be significant, the possibility to embrace innovative infrastructure overbuild approaches becomes an exciting, new alternative – one which becomes even more attractive where the infrastructure corridor land is in quasi-public ownership.

Buildoffsite’s recently published Linear Infrastructure Overbuild Guide presents the broad solution to a truly golden opportunity for Housing-led Urban Regeneration. More specifically, it creates an ideal platform (literally) for designers, manufacturers and developers to demonstrate the benefits of DfMA, where traditional construction methods are unlikely to be feasible.

The guide sets out to demonstrate how using offsite solutions can contribute to this form of development. Inspired by WSP’s Out of Thin Air reports, it aims to do three things:

Make more potential sites viable, creating homes and offsite project opportunities
Enable stakeholders to consider how to unlock more of this potential
Help more developers and suppliers to be involved with infrastructure overbuild.

Hear from the guide’s editors and lead authors explore the challenges, opportunities and benefits of offsite to overbuild, and share insight and inspiration from other overbuild projects.
