Scour at bridges and structures: a CIRIA guidance supplement

This webinar launched CIRIA's new supplement to its highly popular guidance Manual on scour at bridges and other hydraulic structures (C742).

Scour is not a new phenomenon, but the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events over the past ten years has acted as a salient reminder a) of the vulnerability of aged infrastructure assets and b) that the design basis for more recent constructed works may not be as robust as intended. Scour, therefore, remains a significant concern to transport infrastructure operators, property owners and utility operators whose assets lie on or cross riverbanks.

This supplement to Manual on scour at bridges and other hydraulic structures, second edition (C742) captures additional knowledge since the guide was published in 2015, and draws on a literature reviews and engagement with industry. It focuses on experience from an operational context, and the state and maturity of current UK research aimed at producing tools and techniques to better manage scour.
