Timber construction (for reduced carbon)

This webinar was hosted by Buildoffsite and CIRIA’s Communities of Practice (Driving Net Zero Carbon and Managing Construction Risk). It explored the use of timber construction to drive net zero carbon in the residential sector whilst managing construction risk.

If there is a single construction material with the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the UK construction sector it has to be timber. Approximately 85% of homes in Scotland are timber frame construction and though the percentage in England and Wales is much lower, the numbers are growing year on year.

This event considered different construction methods and approaches to the use of wood in various types of development including:
  • Timber frame construction
  • Mass engineered timber
  • Maximising use of local resources
  • Construction and regulatory risks
