WITH OUR MEMBERS
Leanne Clowting, CIRIA
Director, takes a look at the
growing membership base
and how CIRIA is working
collaboratively to improve
access and engagement
With the long hot summer now sadly a
distant memory and many of us focused
on planning for the New Year, it feels
appropriate to take a look at how things
have developed over the past 12 months.
We have seen a few changes this year and
welcomed a number of new members
to the table, as you will see to the right.
Our increased focus on innovation, with
a new forum introduced this year has
offered wider opportunities for academic
institutions to get involved, furthering
our commitment to improving industry
performance through collaboration.
Our Chief Executive, Dirk Vennix, talks
more about CIRIA’s links with academia and
industry partners in his introduction (Inside
front cover – CEO comment).
In addition to an increased representation
from academia, the membership is also
benefitting from a wider range of supply
chain and smaller organisations. Since
introducing a Micro level of membership we
have welcomed a further 16 organisations.
Please do put us in touch if you know of a
smaller organisation which would benefit
The CIRIA team is always looking to deliver
more for our growing number of members
and 2018 has been no exception, with a
renewed focus on our journey to broaden
membership, engage more member
employees in activities and work more
closely with them to inform our plans.
As well as collaborating with members
on our network event and content
programme, covered in more depth by Will
opposite, we are keen to ensure that our
Member Council has every opportunity
to engage and inform our work. Our
most recent example of this is the new
and improved Member Handbook which
includes everything you need to know
about membership and making the most
of its benefits.
In this vein, Council Chair, Jonathan Simm,
has outlined his priorities for coming
Council sessions, which include; continuing
engagement around Infrastructure
Resilience (see page 27); increasing CIRIA’s
influence and voice of members across
relevant industry issues; and further
improving performance of infrastructure
through green initiatives. These follow a
lively session in October’s Council meeting
focused on how we can better engage with
members down the supply chain.
It just remains for me to wish all of our
members and readers a happy Christmas.
I look forward to seeing many of you in
the New Year.

Marketing Services Director.
