Natural slopes – condition, appraisal and remedial treatment

Project Summary
Following a series of workshops and presentations in 2018 the UK’s  consultants, contractors and transport asset owners were in broad agreement that it would be beneficial for a CIRIA project to develop best practice guidance for the evaluation of landslide hazard and risk from natural slopes.

There is no independent guidance that provides advice for asset owners, consultants and contractors. Most of the existing guidance is highly technical and is largely written for consultants.  General guidance on managing and remediating landslides would help ensure that remedial solutions are cost effective and suitably reliable.

The project will be a collaboration between transport infrastructure owners/operators and the industry supply chain. It will be independently written with steering from leading industry figures. It will provide best-practice advice to clients and practitioners.

Benefits of involvement
This is an opportunity to input and influence an important piece of research, the project output of which will be used by industry practitioners and leading transport infrastructure owners/operators.

Project Status
CIRIA has started work on this project.  The contractor who has been appointed is Atkins.
