Introducing the Community of Practice for
construction soil management

CIRIA is pleased to announce the launch of a new Community of Practice (CoP) for construction soil management.

Soils are a critical component of healthy, functioning ecosystems, playing a vital role in agriculture, water quality, flood risk management, biodiversity and carbon storage. The Government’s 25 year Environment Plan requires us to protect, enhance and restore soils.

However, in construction surplus soils can easily become a waste and navigating the myriad of waste regulation and guidance to deliver the best outcome for surplus soils can be challenging.

Together with Arcadis, Harworth Group, Kier, MoD, NDA, Network Rail and Wills Bros, CIRIA’s Community of Practice (CoP) for construction soil management aims to encourage industry dialogue to share good practice in finding better ways of valuing and managing soils in construction projects.

CIRIA is seeking industry input and support for the new CoP for construction soil management.
