Don't miss out on CIRIA's latest publication launch: Guidance on embedded retaining wall design (C760)

The highly anticipated launch of CIRIA’s new Guidance on embedded retaining wall design (C760) will provide an introduction to the evolution of design practices for embedded retaining walls and showcase the impact C760 will have on civil and geotechnical engineering professions.

The new guidance supersedes C580 and will provide best practice guidance on the selection and design of vertical embedded retaining walls to satisfy the requirements of the Eurocodes. It covers temporary and permanent cantilever, anchored, single and multi-propped retaining walls that are supported by embedment in soft soils, stiff clays, other competent soils and soft rocks.

The content of C760 addresses the technical and construction issues relating to the selection of appropriate wall types and construction sequence to achieve a satisfactory design. It clarifies areas of ambiguity and common misunderstandings when applying the Eurocodes to the design of embedded retaining walls and presents a clear, unambiguous method for the application of the observational method.

The guidance will be launched at an event on Monday 17 October at the Institution of Structural Engineers HQ. Speakers include:
  • Professor Lord Mair CBE FREng FRS, Sir Kirby Laing Professor of Civil Engineering, University of Cambridge
  • Asim Gaba, Director, Ove Arup & Partners Ltd and Stuart Hardy, Associate Director, Ove Arup & Partners Ltd
  • Keith Reeves, Senior Geotechnical Engineer, HS2 Ltd and Colin Rawlings, HS2 Ltd
The event is free to attend for CIRIA members and £150 + VAT for non-members. To book please visit the event page. For a limited time all pre-orders received before 30 September will receive a discounted rate, visit the CIRIA bookshop for more information
