Academics urge boost in MMC support

During a House of Lords built environment committee hearing, scholars from the University of Manchester emphasised the government's need to actively support advanced modern methods of construction (MMC).

Dr. Suzanne Peters, a researcher at the Alliance Manchester Business School, expressed hope that MMC could support the sector to achieve the government's annual target of 300,000 homes. Dr. Peters noted the difficulty for the supply side to address these challenges independently, emphasising the crucial role of government support. The scholars' plea for increased government involvement and support for MMC echoes a growing call for transformative measures in the UK's housing construction.

CIRIA is looking forward to the forthcoming BOPAS Forum on 30 November 2023. Attendees will explore the opportunities and challenges faced by the MMC sector in its pursuit of gaining mainstream construction status.
