Blue-green infrastructure (BGI) can be defined as a strategic network of natural and manmade green and blue spaces that sustain natural processes. BGI is designed and managed as a multi-functional resource, capable of delivering a wide range of benefits for society, the environment and the economy.

CIRIA supported the Blue Green Cities research consortium to collate and present research findings to support the planning, design and management of BGI. Two reports were produced, C780a which covers planning perspectives, engagement with communities their perceptions of SuDS and how they can affect the delivery and management of BGI. C780b covers the factors that influence the water quality management performance of BGI, particularly SuDS.
