Out of print publication, available as a photocopy only
This report covers all aspects of seawall design from the broader issues of coastal management and other options for coastal defence and environmental assessment, through to problem definition, project planning, data collection and interpretation, conceptual and detailed design, design for construction and maintenance, materials, financial and economic considerations. As a result, the report makes extensive reference to a wide range of publications, particularly those of the British Standards Institution and the ´Shore protection manual’ published by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The report guides the reader in respect of the various potential problems, their definition, possible solutions, the establishment of key functional requirements of a seawall, and the methods of designing to take due account of engineer, environmental and economic considerations. The book is intended to publicise and assist with good design practice, to identify limitations in design, to give guidance on data collection, and thus assist the user of the book to develop soundly based site-specific solutions.
