Background
As the human population continues to migrate towards the coastline, more marine infrastructure is required to support coastal civilisation, from shipping infrastructure to coastal defence. Much of this engineering fails to support adequate habitat for marine life, and the Marineff project aims to change this with their specially adapted eco-engineering modules. These innovative concrete modules address the challenges of the marine environment, whilst providing ecological, recreational, and aesthetic benefits.
The webinar will follow on from the webinar hosted by CIRIA in December 2020, which introduced the project and its aims and objectives. This webinar will remind viewers of the project’s module designs and give exciting updates about the marine life now calling them home, while sharing plans for the project’s future following the announcement of a 14-month funded extension. It will also provide insights about how coastal practitioners might meet the 10% biodiversity net gain in coastal and marine developments as mandated in the Environment Bill by using Marineff eco-engineering modules. We invite viewers to ask questions and provide feedback about the project’s work.

Contexte
Alors que la population humaine continue de migrer vers le littoral, davantage d'infrastructures marines sont nécessaires pour soutenir la civilisation côtière, des infrastructures de navigation à la défense côtière. Une grande partie de cette ingénierie ne parvient pas à soutenir un habitat adéquat pour la vie marine, et le projet Marineff vise à changer cela avec leurs modules biomimétiques spécialement adaptés. Ces modules de béton innovants répondent aux défis du milieu marin, tout en offrant des avantages écologiques, récréatifs et esthétiques.
Le webinaire fera suite au webinaire hébergé par le CIRIA en décembre 2020, qui présentait le contexte, buts et objectifs du projet. Ce webinaire rappellera aux spectateurs les aspects de conception des modules du projet et donnera des mises à jour passionnantes sur la vie marine qui les appelle désormais chez eux, tout en partageant les perspectives du projet après l'annonce d'une extension financée de 14 mois. Il fournira également des informations sur la façon dont les professionnels côtiers pourraient atteindre le gain net de 10 % de biodiversité dans les développements côtiers et marins, comme le prévoit le projet de loi sur l'environnement du Royaume-Uni en utilisant les modules biomimétiques de Marineff. Nous invitons le public present à poser des questions et à faire part de leurs commentaires sur le travail du projet.
