Preserving embodied CO2e with resilience management systems

This webinar will highlight a collaborative venture to develop and manufacture a standardised modular component aiming to preserve structures for whole life with control and data-driven performance.

Background
Following 10 years of collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University, C-Probe further collaborated with The MTC to develop an alkali-activated cementitious (AACM ) restoration smart product with the capacity to provide electrochemical protection to steel for the control and prevention of corrosion during the whole life of a structure.

The collaboration has resulted in a lean manufacturing process of this product, which demonstrates value stream mapping and efficient use of equipment and labour.

The end result, LoCem®, incorporates industrial wastes into its production, which helps yield up to 90% less CO2e than CEM1. This is a vital contribution to net zero and decarbonisation of the built environment, with its ultimate objective being the long-term resilience and control of corrosion within concrete infrastructures.

  • Development of a pilot plant to manufacture 250,000 components per year as a precursor to analysing market demand before scaling.
  • Planned adoption of digital robot/cobot technology to take the pilot to a 5 million unit production facility.
