Understanding European Protected Species licencing policy

A one hour webinar providing an overview of four new European Protected Species licencing policies launched by Natural England a year ago. The Webinar will provide background information and strategic steer, as well as consideration of their use in the planning system. Case studies of where the policies have been put into practice on development sites will be presented that demonstrate the potential for significant time and cost savings, and which can provide improved outcomes for EPS. This is in comparison to traditional approaches. Case studies will not only explore successes but also identify and explore the challenges of implementing the new approach.

Background
Natural England consulted on four proposed new policies for European Protected Species (EPS) mitigation licensing on Defra’s behalf between February and April 2016.
Policy aims:
  • Achieve better outcomes for EPS; and
  • Reduce unnecessary costs, delays caused by uncertainty that can be inherent in the current system.
CIRIA and the BIG group want to test out if and where these policy changes are being implemented. The aim is to understand how the EPS policies can best be applied based on lessons learnt and practical delivery, using case studies as examples.
