Guidance on Construction of SuDS

A good SuDS design can be misinterpreted and let down by poor construction and detailing. This can affect performance and ultimately cause failure. With SuDS becoming more common place and the diversity of schemes and applications growing, it is now timely for this project to release up to date guidance on SuDS construction to ensure they are built as designed and to provide the performance and benefits required.

This event celebrates the completion and launch of CIRIA's latest publication on Guidance on construction of SuDS which is aimed principally at construction and site based organisations and individuals, contractors, clerks of works, local authority planners, flood risk managers and designers.

This event is currently full. To be added to the waiting list please contact, [email protected].

Background
As a part of CIRIA’s ongoing work promoting and developing good practice guidance on sustainable drainage, this event will promote the correct construction of SuDS as being different to traditional below ground drainage but not difficult. The aim is for the construction industry to take note of a number of simple changes to how things are normally done to ensure successful functioning SuDS. It is anticipated that the guidance if applied throughout the industry, will enable greater confidence in designing, specifying and constructing SuDS.

Failure of SuDS projects is often caused by inadequate understanding of their function and the processes that are followed as part of an above ground treatment train. This can lead to disappointing results even when the best intentions are catered for at the outset of a project. Often the failures are due to a minor error in installation, or a failure to comply with designer’s specific details, or indeed for a contractor to sequence installation of SuDS at the wrong time during the construction programme.

Why attend?
Delegates who attend this event will;
  • hear the drivers behind the production of the guidance
  • get to preview content from the new guidance document
  • hear a detailed introduction on how to use the guidance.
  • explore a series of illustrated examples of how the guidance can be applied in practice, and draw attention to common errors, recommendations and good practice for the correct construction of SuDS.
Over recent years SuDS delivery in the UK has steadily increased. This has improved knowledge and experience particularly around the construction of SuDS.  The objective of this event is to share the latest CIRIA guide uses that experience to help those constructing SuDS to understand and avoid the common pitfalls.
