Background

The potential for cities to transform themselves for the better has never been greater. Digital technologies that enable the vast exchange of data creates new possibilities to make cities cleaner, safer and greener, and more responsive to the needs of their citizens and businesses. Urban centres around the world require in-depth technical strategies using digitally enabled technologies to address infrastructure challenges. Before that can happen decision makers will inevitably ask for the likely return from smart city projects.

At the 2017 winter reception CIRIA members will hear about research from Siemens plc following an 18 month research project to uncover the likely return on investment of digitally enabled urban infrastructure.  Attendees will hear how five cities collaborating in this study can benefit from prioritising their investments based on strategic planning and analytics, what each city has learned being part of the study and how they plan to move forward with their own smart city investments.
