Water is integral to maintaining the quality of our natural and built
environment. Protecting our water and natural environments through
better water management is crucial in adapting to changing demography,
resource use and climatic regimes.
CIRIA’s work covers sustainable water management, water availability,
flood risk, water quality and the opportunities for integrating water
into our natural and built environment. The work focuses on the need to
start seeing water management as an opportunity, rather than a
challenge, by thinking both strategically and locally to deliver
multiple benefits.
CIRIA’s initiatives look at the big picture, but also provide practical
approaches to make a difference on the ground by bringing together
relevant disciples to deliver good practice guidance.
CIRIA’s work in water management, particularly in Sustainable Drainage
Systems (SuDS) and flood risk management, has helped inform regulation
in the UK.
