Join us in London for CIRIA's Annual Lecture, where leading voices from policy and industry will explore how the energy transition is reshaping construction, examining the influence of net zero ambitions on practice and how the sector can deliver resilient, scalable solutions for the future.
Background
The transition to a low-carbon energy system is reshaping the construction industry at every level—from policy and planning to delivery on the ground. This year’s Annual Lecture explores how the shift to net zero is influencing infrastructure, innovation, and collaboration across the sector.
Bringing together perspectives from policy and practice, the lecture will examine the scale of change required and the role of the construction industry in enabling a resilient, future-ready energy network.
As the UK accelerates toward its net zero ambitions, the way energy is generated, transmitted, and integrated into infrastructure is undergoing fundamental transformation. From gas-fired power stations to renewable sources such as wind, the demands on connectivity, resilience, and system-wide thinking are increasing.
Drawing on CIRIA’s work, the session will connect strategic policy with practical implementation challenges, this member-exclusive lecture will take an overarching view of the energy transition, considering what it means not only for major programmes such as grid upgrades, but for the wider construction industry—including design, materials, asset management, and delivery at the “coal face.”
