Background
The availability, danger and uncertainty of water is critical for humankind. However, city growth alters the water dynamics creating imbalances and flood risk. Water and climate change are inextricably linked. Climate change affects water in complex ways resulting in water scarcity and water-related hazards including unpredictable rainfall patterns, shrinking ice sheets, rising sea levels, flooding, and drought.
This conference theme “Too much water or not enough – blue green infrastructure tools” will explore how blue-green infrastructure (BGI) can mitigate the effects of climate change and support adaptation. Industry experts will share how blue spaces are key to BGI systems, and how a range of other BGI solutions can alleviate water scarcity and water-related hazards.
Check out CIRIA’s latest guidance which was published last November: Blue roofs – a guide to implementation (C817D). Attendees to this conference will learn from the authors about the delivery of multiple benefits and improve your confidence in the specification, design and delivery of blue roofs.
