Blue and green targets – integrating delivery

This virtual conference will consider the increasing drive for metric-based reporting on environmental performance.

Background
The aim of CIRIA’s blue-green infrastructure (BGI) conference series is to assist in mainstreaming BGI and to provide tools and knowledge to make incentivise the construction industry to invest in BGI as well as grey assets.

However, it seems that a series of blue and green targets and metrics have been adopted quite rapidly in recent years, raising more question marks and hurdles rather than opportunities to move towards more sustainable practices. These targets include:

  • Biodiversity net gain
  • Net zero carbon
  • Nutrient neutrality
  • Green infrastructure standards
  • Nature and climate related financial disclosure
  • Environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics
As a result, the regulatory landscape appears complicated to navigate, the ever-evolving rules and regulations adding a burden to an already busy industry.

CIRIA’s aim is to bring together key stakeholders and facilitate a conversation about the realities and practicalities of evaluating and reporting on blue and green targets. In partnership with its Biodiversity Community of Practice, this conference will address the emerging difficulties on the delivery side, but also on the opportunities it presents for the construction industry and the wider environment.
