Timber construction (for reduced carbon)

Join this webinar, hosted by Buildoffsite and CIRIA’s Communities of Practice, exploring the use of timber construction to drive net zero carbon in the residential sector whilst managing construction risk.

Background
If there is a single construction material with the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the UK construction sector it has to be timber. Approximately 85% of homes in Scotland are timber frame construction and though the percentage in England and Wales is much lower, the numbers are growing year on year.

This event will consider different construction methods and approaches to the use of wood in various types of development including:
  • Timber frame construction (John Smith, Donaldson Timber Systems)
  • Mass engineered timber (David Miller, David Miller Architects)
  • Maximising use of local resources (Gary Newman, Woodknowledge Wales)
Construction and regulatory risks will also be covered.

Managing Construction Risk Community of Practice
Launched in 2020, CIRIA’s Managing Construction Risk Community of Practice (CoP) brings together practitioners from the construction and insurance sectors with the objective of improving the management of risk and financial performance. For more information and to get involved, please contact Dirk Vennix.

Driving Net Zero Carbon Community of Practice
Achieving Net Zero Carbon (NZC) in the construction sector is a significant challenge and one which requires collectively exploring the issues and collaborating to find solutions. To facilitate this, CIRIA has launched a new Community of Practice: Driving Net Zero Carbon which brings together sustainability practitioners from across multiple sectors and disciplines within infrastructure to help the Government drive the pathways to NZC 2050. For more information and to get involved, please contact Andy Moores.
