Background
Facilities management (FM) encompasses multi-disciplinary activities and the management of their impact on people, the workplace and the environment. Whilst the FM function is responsible for complying with a range of environmental laws, environmental good practice goes beyond compliance to preventing negative impacts of operating the building or site, minimising the risk of potential negative impacts, and achieving positive impacts where possible.

The current global focus on environmental impacts and sustainability combined with the trend towards more strategic relationships in the industry is evolving the role of FM to incorporate aspects such as green procurement, carbon emissions reduction, pollution prevention and waste and materials management.

CIRIA’s new guide Environmental good practice in facilities management (C797) aims to support organisations meet strategic goals (environmental performance and corporate responsibility) and respond to the market demand for value-added services and evolving client requirements.

This webinar will provide an overview of the new guide and will help FM practitioners understand environmental and sustainability requirements and offer cost-effective FM services whilst reducing the risk of environmental impacts.

CIRIA is also planning a one-day training course on Environmental good practice in facilities management: please contact Nipa Patel to register your interest.
