CIRIA's 60th anniversary heritage guidance webinar series
Throughout the year we will revisit a number of our seminal publications.
• Abandoned mine workings manual (2019)
• Beach management manual (second edition) (2010)
• The Rock Manual (2007)
• The International Levee Handbook (2013)
Background
The third instalment of the webinar series will feature ‘The Rock Manual. The use of rock in hydraulic engineering (2nd edition)’ (C683) which CIRIA published in 2007.
The manual is a comprehensive reference guide covering rock works in rivers and canals, estuary and river closure works and coastal rock works, plus information on works with large concrete armour units. The content has been significantly updated from the previous versions and collates research data and technical information together with practical experience gained by practitioners.
Join us at this webinar to hear industry experts:
• give an overview and demonstrate the practical application of the manual
• provide international case studies to improve understanding of rock behaviour
• share good practices for hydraulic engineering
• reveal plans to develop the third edition of The Rock Manual
Sponsorship opportunities

Why attend
• Improve your understanding of rock behaviour
• Discover how the manual is used to assist with design, construction, management,
specification, quality control, environmental impact assessment, maintenance and
material selection.
• Find out how to achieve a long-term improvement in the use of armourstone
• Learn how to promote conservation of natural systems in balance with the proper
protection of human life and property
• Influence the scope and direction of any update to The Rock Manual
• Earn valuable CPD
Who should attend
The webinar will be of use to coastal, river and estuarine managers and engineers, consultants, civil engineers, hydraulic engineers, geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, environmental regulators, geomorphologists, modellers, planning and other consenting authorities, environmental advisers, contractors, quarry companies, laboratories and academics.
