Enabling innovation through procurement
This webinar will describe how innovation in construction can be encouraged and facilitated through appropriate procurement measures.
Background
There are many reasons to innovate. For the construction sector it provides a route to achieve the industry’s strategic targets of lowering costs, faster delivery, lower emissions and improvement in exports. Innovating – or doing things differently or better – can also improve the image and attractiveness of the sector to new entrants. New technology, business models, cross-sector or international practices and new knowledge from academic research all create opportunities to innovate.
But organisations are facing these opportunities at a time where they are being required to do more with less: less money and/or less staff. An organisation’s approach to identifying, assessing, trialling and implementing potential innovations is often as important as the opportunities themselves.
Since 2019 a group of infrastructure clients and supply chain have been sharing information on their approaches to innovation (as opposed to particular innovations). One area identified was the role of procurement in encouraging innovation.
This event was developed as part of
CIRIA’s Construction Innovation Alliance’s
programme of activities. For further information, please contact
