Harness the capability of geographical information systems
Improve your knowledge of geographical information systems including its role and application on civil engineering infrastructure projects.

Background
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are commonly used for major infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 Programme, but its adoption for smaller scale projects or infrastructure asset management generally is underutilised. CIRIA propose to showcase its role and application at this webinar and in the forthcoming collection of case studies.
One of the many advantages of GIS is the creation of a visual database with many data layers from multiple sources which can be used and shared with others. It facilitates a multidisciplinary collaborative approach from the outset of projects. The data can be accessed, visualised and recorded using digital tools which makes it ideal for widespread use.
The webinar will focus on the capability of GIS and how this can be integrated into existing asset management strategies. We aim to demonstrate the benefits at the design and construction stage, what makes its use a necessity, as well as the long-term benefits derived from an improved asset management capability.
