Hazardous ground gases - are we doing any better?
This event looks to discuss how construction professionals are managing hazardous ground gases
Background
Hazardous ground gases can cause serious problems for construction developments of both new and existing buildings.
The UK government aims to build more than 300,000 new homes by the mid 2020’s. Many will be on brownfield sites. As for existing houses, with an average life of more than 100 years for residential developments in this country, many may not have gas protective measures in place. If they have with increasing rainfall and severe weather events becoming more frequent, it can affect the effectiveness of existing gas mitigation.
Over 50 guidance documents have been published and numerous training course are available. There is also NVQ Level 4 Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems.
However are we actually doing any better?
