16 March 2016
15.00-18.00 (registration from 14.30)

This event will introduce new CIRIA guidance Fit-out environmental good practice on site guide (C757) to support effective delivery of environmental objectives. The fit-out sector faces unique challenges including the need for a quick turnaround, controlling cost and programme, and site constraints, while having potential to significantly affect the sustainability of the space both during fit-out and in use. There is a need for practical guidance to assist in meeting these challenges and delivering good environmental management on site.

CIRIA’s new site- focussed guidance provides practical, succinct guidance to support the delivery of fit-out projects applicable across a range of sectors (commercial, retail, education, leisure, health).  It prompts users with a number of key questions to consider at the various project stages. It highlights opportunities for delivering sustainable fit-out projects, which are often carried out over very rapid timescales and on sites of very limited space.

Good environmental management on site requires a team effort between main contractors, subcontractors, designers, clients and suppliers. This guide is focused on the contractor and specifically the site manager, but encourages co-operation between all parts of the supply chain to achieve good environmental practice. Robust project planning and a collaborative approach enables environmental issues to be positively managed. The whole project team and construction supply chain have responsibilities for good environmental management.
