Background
Infrastructure in the UK continues to be the enabling factor for economic growth and improvements to quality of life. We are continually adapting the way we build our infrastructure to deliver more sustainable assets. Infrastructure projects highlight the benefits that can be realised from embedding sustainability and environmental practices as a fundamental part of the development process.

Continuing improvement to planning, design and construction practice will deliver infrastructure that will create prosperity for future generations whilst reducing impact to local stakeholders and integrating more effectively with the surrounding natural and built environment.

The event will include practical examples of embedding environmental practices into the delivery of infrastructure and a view of what approaches are likely to become important in the coming years. This event will demonstrate the benefits of embedding sustainability throughout the project and give an indication of what to do to achieve this.

Topics will include:
  • Environmental good practice improvements and step change in the industry – the future of environmental good practice
  • How does embedding environmental best practice work in reality? – legacy of environmental good practice – intentions to pass on learning
  • How would best practice be transferred from major infrastructure project to major infrastructure project in an ideal world?
  • Theory behind how lessons get passed on? eg project managers moving from one project to another
  • Measuring success – environmental strategies and KPIs
  • The environmental management trends of major rail schemes throughout the years; where lessons have been learnt.
