Good practice- assessment of asbestos risk from the ground

This training provides an introduction to asbestos in soil, reviewing the types of asbestos and the toxicology associated with asbestos.

This event is free for BRMF and LACL members.
This event costs £190 + VAT for non members.

Background

Previous focus on asbestos has dealt with the management of asbestos contamination within buildings, however, the results of the 1000’s of investigations at contaminated sites across the UK has found that asbestos is frequently identified in made ground and there has been ambiguity in the approach to assessing risk.

This training provides an introduction to asbestos in soil, reviewing the types of asbestos and the toxicology associated with asbestos. It will include proposed methodology for investigating asbestos contamination in soils and assessment of risk and mitigation strategies which will be discussed in the CIRIA publication C733 Asbestos in soil and made ground: a guide to understanding and managing waste. A workshop session will be used to bring together the aspects learnt during the earlier part of the day and bring out key learning points.

Who should attend?
Local authorities, clients, house builders, consultants, contractors.

Required level of knowledge
The workshop assumes a general working knowledge of the current UK regulatory framework for assessment of land contamination including principles set out in CLR 11.

CPD
This event has a value of 5 hours towards your CPD (As recognised by ICE, CIOB, RICS, CIBSE, IstructE).
