New Eurocode compliant Tower crane guidance

CIRIA’s highly anticipated new guide Tower crane foundation and tie design  (C761) aims to bring together important practical and design issues that affect health and safety and to present a current understanding of good practice based on the experience of a wide cross-section of the industry.

This Eurocode compliant guide, which is an update to CIRIA C674, is intended to promote the safe design and construction of foundations for tower cranes through an improved understanding of temporary works design and health and safety issues.

The new guide aims to help both designers and contractors understand the issues related to the safe use of tower cranes and design to industry good practice guidance.

Following the launch event today, Tim Watson, Technical Consultant, Construction Plant-hire Association and member of the CIRIA Project Steering Group commented "This latest version of the guidance is an essential reference for all those involved with the planning, procurement, installation and dismantling of tower cranes. In particular the document provides a comprehensive reference for base and tie designers using the Eurocode approach. The guidance which does not, to my knowledge, exist elsewhere, offers in a concise form, a wealth of experience which should be invaluable to young engineers and designers”.
