Marine Sand and Gravel - Beyond the Horizon
6th triennial EMSAGG conference

CIRIA is excited to announce the 6th triennial European Marine Sand and Gravel Group (EMSAGG) conference: Maine sand and gravel – beyond the horizon will take place on 28-29 June in Southampton, UK. Delegates booking before the 29 May can benefit from up to 20% off full ticket prices.

Well-known for its track record of delivering high quality agendas, this conference will include talks from some of Europe’s leading industry experts in the realm of marine dredging and will feature a Keynote from John Tuckett, Chief Executive of the Marine Management Organisation.

The responsible extraction of marine aggregate is pivotal to future social and economic growth across Europe and beyond.  Mark Russell, Executive Director, Planning, Mineral Resources & BMAPA, Mineral Products Association said; “It is estimated that over 3 billion tonnes of construction aggregate will be required to support the homes and infrastructure that society demands in Great Britain to the end of 2030. Consequently, the role and contribution of marine dredged sand and gravel resources as part of the wider portfolio of construction aggregate supply is of growing importance.”

Major investment to protect coastal infrastructure, improve national resilience, and to support social and economic aims are reflected in changing demands on the industry. The conference will provide a valuable insight into how the sector is responding to client needs and markets, including recent developments at a policy, technical, resource mapping and environment performance level. It will also include a boat trip viewing marine aggregate and other infrastructure along Southampton Water, plus an optional tour of the National Oceanography Centre.

UK EMSAGG members include The Crown Estate and the British Marine Aggregate Producers Association who have supported the development of this year’s conference.

Nick Everington, Portfolio Manager at The Crown Estate, said;
“The Crown Estate is pleased to support the 2018 EMSAGG conference, which draws together professionals from across Europe with an interest in understanding and developing best practice in the marine sand and gravel industry.  The industry meets a crucial need in the construction sector, providing an efficient and sustainable supply of materials to our built environment, from the construction and maintenance of our buildings, infrastructure and our coastal defences, to the creation of new land.”

Cees Laban, Chairman, European Marine Sand & Gravel Group, said:
“This EMSAGG conference is the perfect opportunity to bring together leading experts and stakeholders from the dredging community to discuss how we can continue progress in this area.”

Conference attendees* can also attend, free of charge, a separate half-day workshop organised by CIRIA in association with the UK Environment Agency on Beach Management.
