Celebrating SuDS: susdrain SuDS Champion Awards 2019

 CIRIA is delighted to announce that the 2019 susdrain SuDS* Champion Awards is now open for entry. The Awards invite developers, approvers, designers and community members from across the construction industry to nominate a champion who they believe has gone above and beyond to promote the use and multiple benefits of SuDS.

SuDS have become an increasingly visible and functioning part of our landscapes in recent years and their application will continue to grow with Governing bodies such as the Welsh Government mandating their use in developments. Increased implementation of SuDS schemes bring forth a change in behaviour with increased acceptance and improvements to their design and construction. The 2019 SuDS Champion Awards are to highlight a champion that has demonstrably gone the extra mile to promote/exhibit the multiple benefits of SuDS in recent years. 

Louise Walker, Project Manager, CIRIA says: “SuDS champions demonstrate what can be achieved even without legislative requirement to do so. Across the country there are people going the extra mile not to just install SuDS for a single purpose, but to create exceptional and creative schemes that are appreciated by local communities, trusted by experts, inhabited by wildlife and maintained to a high standard. SuDS champions are motivators; they engage with others to successfully communicate the multiple benefits that SuDS bring and to ensure the most appropriate schemes are delivered. These are the people who have raised the importance of SuDS and will continue to do so - and they should be applauded.”

The awards are free to enter, download the nomination form below and email your chosen champion to [email protected] 

Nominations will close on Friday 17th May 2019.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 18th July 2019.
