Britain's largest housebuilders joins CIRIA membership

Barratt Developments, Britain’s largest housebuilding company, has joined CIRIA’s membership. This follows participation in and sponsorship of CIRIA’s project to support UK construction in creating net gains for biodiversity through development guidance.

The company, which completed 17,395 homes in 2017, has stated its ambition to be Britain’s leading national sustainable housebuilder. Three years ago it formed a national partnership with conservation charity The RSPB, and the organisations have worked together on the exemplar Kingsbrook Development, Aylesbury which is award-winning for its approach to nature.

Barratt Developments leads the housebuilding industry in the 2017 Carbon Disclosure Project and is the leading national sustainable housebuilder in the NextGeneration sustainability benchmark, having received a Gold award for four years in a row.

Sarah Pratt, Head of Corporate Sustainability said: “Through our partnership with The RSPB and our strong focus on biodiversity over recent years, participation in CIRIA’s biodiversity net gain guidance project has been an excellent opportunity to share learnings with others in the construction and housebuilding industry, to the benefit of the wider environment going forward. Joining CIRIA as a member enables us to support more construction industry research to progress in overcoming the environmental and other challenges in building the homes and infrastructure the country needs.”
