At CIRIA we constantly strive to improve our performance and we have worked carefully to ensure our training courses have a minimal environmental impact. So far we have looked at the following areas:
Accommodation
We actively seek venues with policies aimed at reducing their impact on the
environment. For events held at our own offices we do have air-conditioning
but this is used only when necessary. All our furniture is from FSC certified
timber sources.
Catering
We work actively with suppliers to reduce waste and the carbon footprint of
our food. Our coffee is fair-trade and food ordering is regularly monitored
to minimise wastage. Tea and coffee is supplied in china cups and there are
glasses available for fruit juice and water.
Transport
Our venue is directly accessible by underground, rail and bus and there is
secure parking for bicycles. Where possible we source other venues that are
easily accessible by public transport.
Handouts
We aim to keep paperwork to a minimum and we are currently experimenting with
electronic distribution of slides to further cut paperwork.
Promotion
The majority of our promotion is by electronic means through our website and
via email. Paper flyers, brochures etc are kept to a minimum.
Recycling
We recycle all unused course materials as well as any packaging we are able
to.
