Background

New CDM2007 regulations come into force on 6 April. They have been revised in response to
experience with the original 2004 legislation. Although the scope of the duties of a designer have in essence (with one exception) not changed significantly, the wording used has changed and the whole emphasis of CDM2007 is on a more effective implementation with less bureaucratic form-filling and more hands-on application of “ERIC” to the construction process. The major change in scope is that the consideration of workplace “in-use” risks has also been brought within the remit of CDM2007.

This one-day course will examine the duties of a designer in the light of CDM2007 and will also
explain the requirement for consideration of workplace ‘in-use’ risks. The difficult issues which face designers will be discussed and practical examples will be used to illustrate the points being made. There will be a team exercise to enable designers to apply the knowledge learnt and questions arising will be dealt with in an open manner. This course includes free copies of CIRIA’s newly updated CDM regulations – construction work sector guidance for designers and the totally new CDM regulations – workplace in use guidance for designers – worth £100 – for every delegate.
