Sir Michael Pitt's interim report on the causes and consequences of the floods has now been published. The interim report contains urgent recommendations which Sir Michael believes should be implemented in order to minimise the impact of any flooding in the near future. It also maps out the direction for the remainder of the Review, and act as a consultation document prior to publication of the final document in the summer of 2008.
The review is now in a phase of consultation which will run until the end of March 2008. Please visit the cabinet office's dedicated web site to view the report and comment

The new Sustainable Drainage News is now available to download. This edition includes articles on the Dings Home Zone development in Bristol which forms part of the UK Government sustainable community program. Issue 11 also features a case study of the Norfolk Community Primary School, Sheffield, that focuses on the use of green roofs and their contribution to stormwater management. Finally, this issue presents the impact that SUDS may have in relation urban diffuse pollution and the Water Frame Directive.

The Government's new strategy for flood and coastal erosion risk management (Making Space for Water) identified the need for an holistic, joined-up, and integrated approach to managing flood risk. One of the Making Space for Water projects is addressing integrated urban drainage management by funding 15 pilot projects to test new approaches to reduce the impact of urban drainage flooding.

CIRIA is pleased to announce the launch of the Local Authority Network on Drainage and Flood Risk Management (LANDFoRM). This network will be free to join and access by any local authority planner or operative involved with the design and implementation of drainage or flood risk management systems.
