Noise and vibration issues have to be carefully addressed when building new infrastructure or undertaking developments next to infrastructure. for example, noise and vibration generated by transport may compromise adjacent buildings, particularly with respect to environmental issues.
This project will aim to provide practical advice on how to address these issues and come to sensible decisions. The discussion of methodology and of criteria (i.e. performance levels to be met) will be an essential part of the work and it is anticipated that the guidance will become a key reference for discussions on construction projects for both developments and infrastructure.
This project is funded by the Research and Development Fund of the Institution of Civil Engineers, CIRIA Core Members, the Rail Safety and Standards Board, Argent Group and Transport Scotland. CIRIA has appointed Mott MacDonald as research contractor and a Project Steering Group of experts has been formed.
