Whilst there is guidance for the design of stadia per se there is no authoritative guidance for design for crowd movements more generally. This project seeks to provide guidance on designing for crowd behaviour.
The work has been funded by Transport for London, the Rail Safety and Standards Board and CIRIA’s Core Members. Others participating include the Met Police, the Olympic Delivery Authority and Arup, who are making a major contribution by preparing the guide text.
The work has been undertaken through a series of workshops at which the participants worked together as a team. The key issues involved in planning and designing new facilities were debated and lessons learned from the past examined. Messages have emerged and the preparation of a guide is now underway.
