Over the past decade CIRIA has published authoritative infrastructure guidance documents including, Infrastructure cuttings – condition appraisal and remedial treatment (C591), Infrastructure embankments – condition appraisal and remedial treatment, Second Edition (C592). These will soon be joined by reports on tunnels, metallic bridges and drystone retaining walls. Together these reports provide a comprehensive suite of key guidance that is assisting industry to improve asset management in the UK and overseas.
The UIG aims to share and exchange ideas and information on research themes that are topical, important and forward thinking to the broader construction industry. This initiative recognises the increased number of university Core members (see list of members below) and the unique opportunity this creates for both CIRIA and the universities to engage. The aims of the UIG being to:
• understand and capture key university initiatives and research in
asset management and other relevant fields
• provide a conduit to feed into and influence CIRIA’s research
activities
• provide input into CIRIA’s Advisory Panels
• create a better interface between high level industry clients and
academia.
The UIG will be managed by CIRIA and the UIG will hold meetings every six months hosted by CIRIA. The UIG will be made of one representative from each Core member university and a maximum of five co-opted members from non-Core universities.
