It has been announced that CIRIA Associate, Mark Sharp has accepted a visiting Professorship at the University of Salford - School of the Built Environment.
Professor Sharp said: “The construction industry has much to gain from the university sector’s ability to assist in both research and knowledge transfer. I am delighted that the University of Salford has invited me to take up the position.
“As a leading construction information broker, CIRIA is constantly striving to provide better two-way links between industry and academia; I hope that working with such a highly regarded and innovative University such as Salford will help strengthen and improve these links further.”

CIRIA has an established history of collaboration with academia. in 2007, CIRIA founded The University Infrastructure Group, which aims to share and exchange ideas and information on research themes that are topical, important and forward thinking to the broader construction industry; and CIRIA leads the Scottish Construction Centre, which works with industry and academia to improve the performance and productivity of the Scottish construction industry.
43 different universities or Higher education institutions are currently involved in one or more category of CIRIA membership; countless others have been involved in steering CIRIA research outputs over a period of more than fifty years.
CIRIA is a member-owned organisation that works with the construction industry, government and academia to provide performance improvement products and services in the construction and related industries.
It was founded in 1960 and currently engages with around 500 subscribing organisations. Activities include collaborative projects, networking, publishing, workshops, seminars and conferences. About 40 projects are run at any one time, about 100 events are staged every year, and 20 books published per annum.
