When embarking on a new construction project there are many things that have to be done (and some that may need to be done) to get started. Although these requirements can immediately affect the main/principal contractor who is responsible for the work on site, all members of the team (including the client) will have legal and contractual responsibilities and duties.
This proposed CIRIA project will highlight the key requirements, discussing
them briefly and indicating where more detailed guidance may be found on particular
issues.
The topics to be addressed will include:
• the tasks arising from the practicalities of creating a working site
• preparing the site for work
• planning for the early-stage activities (including getting tasks underway
early which will help easier, safer work later on)
• setting up procedures for safe work
• meeting legislative requirements, including health and safety and
environmental procedures
• site surveying and benchmarks.
This indicative list will be developed during the early stages of the project.
The guidance will be aimed at site managers of main/principal contractors, assistant and trainee site managers, clients and designers.
The work will be carried out as a collaborative project, so if you want to find out more or wish to get involved, please email Alan Gilbertson at CIRIA.
