Defra launches future government water strategy, Future Water

The Government has launched its new water strategy for England, Future Water. The strategy sets out a framework for water management in England. This includes:

• sustainable delivery of secure water supplies
• an improved and protected water environment
• fair, affordable and cost-reflective water charges
• reduced water sector greenhouse gas emissions
• more sustainable and effective management of surface water

EA and Pitt reviews into the 2007 summer floods now available

Pitt review

Sir Michael Pitt's final report on the causes and consequences of the floods has now been published. It contains 92 recommendations which Sir Michael believes should be implemented in order to manage the impact of any flooding in the near future.
