About the Construction Industry Environmental Forum
Established by CIRIA in 1991, the Construction Industry Environmental Forum's (CIEF)
mission is to improve the sustainability and environmental performance of
construction, by providing a cross-sector and independent forum for the exchange
of new ideas and demonstration of best practice.
Members (currently 190 organisations) include clients and developers,
contractors, consultants, architects, specialists, research bodies and academic
institutions.
Objectives
- Demonstrate the implementation and value of sustainability best practice
- To identify the barriers and promote practical solutions
- To provide briefings on the latest legislative changes
- To showcase examples of best practice and innovation, and the business
benefits
- To assist in the production of appropriate best practice guidance
- To promote research in sustainable construction
- Disseminate the results of new research and guidance that can help
to deliver a more sustainable built environment.

- A nationwide programme of events - conferences and seminars to introduce
topical issues and facilitate knowledge sharing
- Site visits demonstrating the application of sustainability in practice
- Comprehensive notes from every event- sent to all delegates, available
to members to freely download from the web and on the Knowledge Base CD
- Best practice guidance research reports on key issues
- Quarterly newsletters highlighting news,
industry initiatives, research and activities
- Engaging with innovators, practitioners and industry stakeholders
- Working in partnership with organisations
