Description: This guide covers the key elements of developing a website. It includes a number of discussion lists, and some examples and case studies as illustrations of various key points.
While the exact steps you take will depend upon the nature of the website you want to produce, all corporate website projects should start with a strategic assessment of how they will be integrated with other business processes. Once an appropriate strategy is agreed, work can begin on the implementation process. Budgetary and other resource constraints may preclude some details, but the main elements will be followed by the majority of projects.
This guide takes a roughly chronological approach, but some phases will overlap; for example, your designers will need to know about where the website will be hosted, website promotion may need to begin before the site is officially launched.
Moreover, it would be wrong to think that the launch of the website marked the end of the project. In fact, the launch merely marks the end of the first phase; you are now responsible for monitoring and maintaining that website and keeping it up-to-date, and - reflecting changes in market conditions, company products/services and technology - you may well need to return to your original strategy to start the process all over again so that your website remains attractive and useful to its users.
