Description: This report attempts a general analysis of shear based primarily on the conditions of equilibrium of moments and transverse forces at shear cracks, which are of general validity irrespective of the type of member considered. While not all-embracing, the range of members covered is considerable and includes beams of various cross-sections, with or without shear reinforcement in both ordinary and prestressed concrete beams, as well as ordinary reinforced slabs. The work is presented in terms of analysis rather than design, as it has been a general objective to establish the mechanisms of shear failures.
