Description: Buildability is defined in this publication as the extent to which the design of a building facilitates ease of construction, subject to the overall requirements for the completed building. Buildability exists on a scale from very good to very bad, and every building has overall requirements which may necessitate the acceptance of less than the best buildability. How to obtain good buildability, and what it is, are explained, followed by guidelines for good buildability. These are amplified by recommendations and illustrated examples of poor buildability, based on interviews with contractors.
