Description: The circumstances in which pressure surge can arise are described, and methods of surge suppression and control are discussed. The basic theory of pressure surge is outlined, together with graphical and numerical techniques for solving the resulting partial differential equations. Some of the more acceptable approximate methods of analysis are described and several worked examples are included. Charts are included for quick estimation of wave speeds through various fluids in different types of pipeline. Equations are also given to enable the calculation of wave speeds for fluids or pipelines not included in the charts.
