Description: This report examines the technology currently available for moving very large loads laterally. It gives an account of current technology and a summary of basic operational parameters of systems, with both single and multiple units, which have been successfully used for the controlled movements of very large structure, principally by the construction industry. It is intended to be an introduction to the techniques rather than a 'do it yourself' guide, and includes a directory of firms specialising in the various systems.
